    Hi! Thank you for very useful video and great tips. I tried to do something similar, but something went a bit off, so I’m kindly asking you for an advice: I have a wooden IKEA table. Its top made of several wooden blocks, so it’s not a single sheet of wood. I dyed it using water-based dye, and covered it with the first coat of polyurethane lacquer. The thing is that after applying the first coat I can see that the surface gone patchy - some wooden blocks are glossy and smooth, and some - dull and a bit rough to the touch, where the wood absorbed the lacquer. I was going to use fine sandpaper to even the surface after the first coat of lacquer. But now I’m a bit confused as I don’t know if I could damage the dye layer on the dull patches and expose the wood, as it is obviously very thin. What would you suggest to do in this case? I was going to do at least three coats of lacquer with sanding in between.

    • @AngelaMarieMade
      @AngelaMarieMade 3 дня назад

      Those rough spots may be the wood raising and should be able to be sanded lightly to remove the roughness and reapply the top coat. If it is still not glossy you might try to sand the top coat down to the stain and apply 1-2 more coats of stain. The different wooden blocks may also be another species of wood and stain can differ for all types of wood.

    • @vsemprivet
      @vsemprivet 3 дня назад

      @@AngelaMarieMade Thanks a lot, this was very helpful! I’ll try to continue tomorrow and we’ll see how it goes )) I think I will still sand it very lightly trying not to damage dyed layer, so the next poly coat holds better. Cheers!

    • @vsemprivet
      @vsemprivet 2 дня назад

      @@AngelaMarieMade Today I lighly sanded the first coat of poly with 700 grit sandpaper on the block, and fortunately the thickness of the layer allowed me not to damage the stain layer. After that I put on the second layer of poly, this time diluted with mineral spirit at 3 to 1 ratio. It worked very well. So I think I'll continue this routine, as the main danger thankfully is behind.

    • @AngelaMarieMade
      @AngelaMarieMade 3 дня назад

      I agree that the noise was a drawback for removing the doors, but it worked for our situation. Since the laundry was in the kitchen it kept the noise down through the rest of the house and it's the white noise that we got used to and didn't bother us. I can see why you feel this way though😀I hope this helps you to understand the thought process a little more.

    If your wall is textured, do you need to cover the wall with something flat like a flat board before you do your board and batten or would it look OK to just put it over the top of your now textured wall?

    • @AngelaMarieMade
      @AngelaMarieMade 11 дней назад

      Put a couple boards in place to see how you would like the look of the textured wall with board & batten.s Leaving the texture finish would be the easiest and less time consuming but if you do not like the look then some 1/4" plywood could be used. Great question, thank you!

    The hinges are supposed to do that, it's so they hold the door closed properly against the frame and takes up any error. If the hinge held a perfect 90 degrees, then a tiny amount of out-of-square would cause the middle of the doors to not meet perfectly. If there's a mere 0.5 degrees of misalignment between the hinges on each side, then a hinge that held a perfect 90 degrees would cause a misalignment in the middle of 2.61mm if the door were 300mm long.

      Please tell me where you live that the labor for a 200 sqft patio excavation done properly and on time including the extra material costs for the paver base, is less than $500. The paver base alone would have cost $275 for 3" depth so that means your hiring the job out for less than $225, just sayin'😀

    I'm about to do my kitchen tile floor, which is a beige-ish with pink undertones and doesn't match anything. Going with the Rust-Oleum Home Floor kit. Reviews were excellent. Originally got the idea from the bathroom here at work. They painted the floors a couple of years ago, and it still looks great considering the daily traffic and fact the floor gets mopped daily. Re-tiling my kitchen would practically involve a gut job, and the cost alone of someone laying the tile-even without the other work-is prohibitive. To me it's totally worth trying considering how little it costs to do this.

    • @AngelaMarieMade
      @AngelaMarieMade 17 дней назад

      That's exciting to hear. That's cool to hear how it has held up that gets a lot more foot traffic than my back patio. You are right about reconsidering a tile replacement, I thought the same way as you and I'm glad I did that first as well!
